Week 12: Lumberjanes
I read Lumberjanes by several female artist, including Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and other two more. It is about groups of four girls spending summer at a scout camp, where supernatural phenomena is happening. I am going to be honest, I picked this comic because of drawing— which I really like. It is rough but clear drawing style, and the combination with color makes it very attractive and charming, so are the characters. It’s very easy to identify each characters because each one of them are so unique, and they all have various characteristics unlike mass produced female characters. Other thing I liked about this comic is it’s very enjoyable to read along with graphic. It’s not too wordy, everything is simple and not too heavy. The adventures characters go through is supernatural phenomena, so I think that’s other reason why it’s interesting to read— by using subject that won’t happen in real life.
What I find attractive about is comic is it’s female-led story and female-authored title. I feel like it’s easier for female reader to approach and this is what makes so many fans. Lots of the female characters were always dominated by male characters, so I think it’s very interesting to see female creators leading story with female characters. I’m really glad this is still an ongoing series, and I will look at this comic afterwards.
